Cataract surgery Information

Cataract is clouding of the lens of the eye mostly due to aging. Cataract surgery is recommended when your cataract has progressed to the point that it is interfering with your daily activities and hinders your vision.

In the normal human eye, beam of light pass into the eye through pupil. They pass through the clear lens and focus onto the retina. In an eye with a cataract, light scatters throughout the eye instead of focusing precisely on the retina.

Cataract might cause clouded, blurry or dim vision, sensitivity to light and colors to appear faded or yellowed. Undergoing a dilated eye exam is the only positive way to diagnose a cataract.

Cataracts can be easily treated with a simple surgery normal under local anesthesia where clouded lens will be replaced with new man-made lens.

We use advanced cataract surgery technique called phacoemulsification or “Phaco” where a new lens is placed through a small incision in the cornea.
